Salish Coast Elementary School
Nestled on a forested site in Port Townsend—where the Salish Sea meets Puget Sound—this maritime community school replaces an aging facility with one designed for deep collaboration among students, educators, families, and local partners. Grounded in authentic outdoor learning, the courtyard-centered plan invites students to enter through the garden, move seamlessly between forest and classroom via an indoor–outdoor mudroom, and gather in covered outdoor learning spaces oriented to the shared courtyard.
